This is just a solid Breaking Benjamin show I traded out this week, so I decided to do a review. I actually recorded them with Seether and Three Days Grace in March of 2008 (I'm planning a remaster/re-release of that one soon) and back then they did not disappoint. Very heavy and very engaged with the crowd and it shows on this recording. The taper clearly knew what he was doing and positioned himself with an unobstructed line to the speakers, as there is very little talking or crowd noise close by, but still manages to capture the energy in just the way I like it. The sound is a tad bit on the heavy end but its still clear and not distorted. A very solid effort.
Shaun Morgan from Seether joins in the Deftones cover, very well done. I'm sure they did a lot of that throughout the tour, and probably mixed it up with several different covers as well. One of my favorite things about Breaking Benjamin, they use covers to get the crowd into
I couldn't find any pictures from the date, but I made some artwork.

Stone Temple Pilots - 1993-04-04 - Groningen, The Netherlands
I love STP's old stuff. I probably went through two copies of the CORE album. In all fairness, I never really gave the rest of their catalog a fair shake as far as listening, I just felt they went away from the heaviness of that first album and that's what drew me in.
This is a really early show, I believe this got torrented on Dime shortly after Scott's death in early December and then it subsequently made its way to Guitars101. I have no idea why this boot was called "The Great Pretenders" as STP has nothing to do with Oldies Supergroups and late nineties kids TV shows. This recording has good sound and is fairly clear. There is a really slight haze on the audio that sounds reminiscent of a cassette tape or FM transmission, but it is barely noticeable. I did a frequency analysis on this and the full spectrum is there, but there's no frequency response past about 12-15 KHz. I'm thinking this was an analog recording before it made it onto a silver CD. Note there is no spike/line higher up that you usually see from FM sources.
The performance was tight, although Scott seemed a bit antagonistic towards the crowd. There is very little crowd noise. It is interesting they did the acoustic or lounge version of Sex Type Thing this early in their career. But then again when you only have one album's worth of material you do need to find a way to mix it up. I love that they closed the show with Piece of Pie. That might be my favorite track.

Deftones - 1995-12-07 - Minneapolis - Remaster
So I found these files on my hard drive. They date back to 2005 and look to be a rip of a CDR I got back when I was trading via snail mail, but from the lack of detail in the info file, I can't be for sure. I did download a lot of stuff off of Direct Connect back in those days as well. After checking the spectrum, I noticed the high end gets lopped off at around 16 KHz which is a pretty good indicator that this was either mp3'd or recorded at only 32 KHz. Either way, I decided it wasn't worth it to keep these as FLAC files (191 MB for the file set, check your source if you have this one), so I decoded back to WAV, loaded them into Audacity, applied a little EQ, and then saved them as mp3 for my music library. Note I also fixed the track split between 6, 7, and 8. Minus Blindfold was just all jacked up, with the beginning of the track at the end of Teething and the end stuck at the beginning of Engine No. 9.
Onward. This is a pretty good capture. There is some phasing at times as the taper moves, but it's not bad. It's really only a handful of spots. No idea where this guy was standing, but he must have had a good line to the speakers. There's virtually no crowd noise, so either the place was empty or he was able to avoid it somehow. Chino mentions early in the show how people look bored, so it could have just been a lame crowd.
I couldn't find any pictures or artwork for this, so I made something simple below.

Marilyn Manson - 1995-10-06 - Seattle - Crucifixtion
This is a really good Manson bootleg from the Smells Like Children Tour. It was the source for several boots, all of which are mislabeled with the wrong date and location. This show was actually recorded at RCKNDY in Seattle in October of 1995. The boots are usually labeled as being from June of 1996, trying to pass it off as a show from the Antichrist era (Crucifixtion, Urination, Gothic Undergound, Victoria BC 06/06/96). The track times for my copy line up with Crucifixtion.
The overall quality is good, potentially could even be a soundboard, but it doesn't seem to have that dry, soulless sound that you find on some boards. But there's no noticeably annoying crowd noise or talking close to the taper, either. It's just hard to tell. Either way, it's in that sweet spot right where I like it where it sounds like you're actually in the room and not watching it on TV.

Nine Inch Nails - 2000-04-20 - Indianapolis, IN
I was as this show, it was my second concert ever, and first time seeing Nine Inch Nails. It was also hosted in the brand new at the time, Conseco Fieldhouse. We drove from just over two hours away, and as soon as we arrived some punk got busted trying to sell me a concert T-shirt in the parking lot. I was standing there with the shirt in my left hand, the $20 in my right, all the while the guy is getting handcuffed right in front of me and I'm still standing there like an idiot. Finally my friends are like trying to get my attention, motioning at me, "come on free t-shirt! let's go!"
There are two known recordings of this show, an audience audio source by Rudy (Core Sound Cardioid mics + Sony PCM-M1) and a Hi8 video capture by Elvis Hitler (Sony CCD TR940 Hi8 XR). The Rudy audio source is a fine recording on its own, but the Hi8 has a DVD conversion in circulation that leaves a little to be desired. The picture is fine as you can see from the images below, but the generation of the tape that was converted has added some noise to the audio. Hopefully someday we can get a transfer from the master tape, but for now I used the Rudy audio to upgrade the AC3 track in the DVD video that you can find on Dime or posted here on YouTube.
